January 2012 fishing report

Our first Christmas Ladies versus Gents Fishing Competition was a rip roaring good day. Three teams (1 Ladies and 2 Gents) produced a close finish with all but 1 angler catching their full bag within the 4 hours allowed. The Gents B-team, lead by their inspirational captain John Harratt, won the day with an average bag weight of exactly 7lbs receiving the Brick Farm Lakes Christmas Challenge Trophy and of course the all-important bragging rights for a whole year – sorry Ladies!

Beautiful winter sunny conditions continue to provide very good fishing with catch rates over 85%. Flies working include Cats Whiskers, Nymphs, Damsels and Montanas. Browns as well as rainbows are now being stocked through to early Summer. The new lodge remains open throughout the winter with warm food and drink and the wood burner lit to warm yourself by.

Recent rainbow catches include a 5lb 8oz by M Bowley from Bexhill-on-Sea, a 5lb 6oz by Terry from Croydon on a Damsel, a 5lb by P Mitchell from Hastings on a Cats Whisker, a 4lb 10oz by Chris Smart from St Leonards-on-Sea, a 4lb 5oz by Andy Wilson from Robertsbridge using something mysterious and a 4lb 8oz by Will Johns from Brighton on a Green Nymph.
